MERIDEN — Tom Lord brushes snow off the firewood he had used to hold down the tarp over his wood pile outside his home.
“We’re about out of wood around here,” said Lord, a chemistry teacher at Kimball Union Academy.
He said it has been the most persistently cold year he’s experienced since moving to the area 20 years ago.
“I’m using every stick of wood,” he said.
