EFAs lack adequate oversight
Let me get this straight. The House Republicans in Concord voted against requiring the parents of kids, who opt out of our highly-rated New Hampshire public schools and receive money from the educational freedom accounts program, should not be required to release their standardized test scores to the state because it would place an unfair burden on those students. What are those Republicans afraid of? Maybe, we will find out that some parents, who don’t want to get up and get their children out the door in the morning, have discovered that they can stay in bed and scam the state out of money for homeschooling. Or maybe, we will discover that religious schools are not spending enough time on teaching the three R’s. Or maybe, we will find out that those parents, who want to send their children to prestigious, prep schools, are happy to take money from the state that they would have spent themselves anyway. Whatever their reasoning, I would ask them to consider the unfair burden placed on property owners in the state, since the state sends so little revenue to the local school districts. So the next time you see your local representative, ask them if they chose to throw money away on these EFAs, when one of the best things about New Hampshire is local control of schools. We all get to vote on the schools that we want and can afford in our city and towns. Why should people get money from the state, just because they donโt like the results of their local school board elections.
