Red Cross only works with local volunteers

Thank you for your recent article about how Red Cross volunteers help people in the Upper Valley when there’s a home fire, flooding or other disaster. I have volunteered with the Red Cross for over ten years and I am an enthusiastic supporter. The Red Cross supports the Upper Valley in efforts to reduce the number of disasters (for example, by installing smoke detectors), preparing to respond to disasters (for example, by training people to do CPR) and to respond to disasters large and small (for example, widespread flooding to home fires).

A point to emphasize is that the Red Cross is a local Upper Valley organization staffed by local volunteers. Yes there is a big Red Cross helping withย training and organizing โ€” and will bring additional resources to a large disaster โ€” but ultimately the Red Cross is Upper Valley residents who have raised their hands and volunteered to help!
