South Royalton, VT – Sheldon V. Amell, Sr., 75 died Friday, January 9, 2026 at the Springfield Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Springfield, VT.
He was born August 7, 1950 in Randolph, VT the son of Paul V. Amell, Sr. and Jeanette (Brooks) Amell. He attended school in Barnard, VT and later Bethel, VT where he graduated in 1969 from Whitcomb High School.
In 1970 he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star medal and later in the Army National Guard Reserves.
On September 9, 1972 he married Nancy M. Wood. They lived most of their married life in South Royalton where they raised their two sons, Sheldon V. Amell, Jr. and Fred E. Amell.
Sheldon had worked at several area businesses including Vermont Pacific Plywood, Roger Webster Construction, Ward Brothers Logging, Winters, Weyhauser, before retiring from D.C.I.
He enjoyed auto racing, dancing, bowling, mowing lawns, haying, spending time with family and his friends from the Red Door Church and the Springfield Center. Sheldon was a loud personality that was always ready for a good time. He was a member of the South Royalton Fire Department and South Royalton Rescue Squad.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Amell of Springfield, VT, two brothers Len E. Amell, Sr. (Marie) and Paul Amell, Jr., both of South Royalton, VT, three sisters Sylvia Bradley (Randy) of Braintree, VT, Linda Blaisdell of South Royalton, VT, Elizabeth Britch of Bethel, VT and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by both his parents and both his sons, Sheldon V. Amell, Jr. (2019) and Fred E. Amell (2021).
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to South Royalton Fire Department, P.O. Box 204, South Royalton, VT 05068.
A private burial with military honors will be held at a later date at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Center in Randolph Center, VT.
A public celebration of life barbeque will also be held at a later date.
