There are two influences from Mr. Trump’s New York background that have been on full display during his second term.
The first to “tag” objects, buildings, proclamations, or anything where he can affix his mark on anything with a flat surface. This continues a long line of New York graffiti artists, with their spray paint and wanton disregard for the property they are defacing, to mark their territory for all to see. My Trump used to be limited to the buildings he managed but now he has the canvas of the entire United States and regardless of laws or history he can “tag” anything, but I am afraid it will not fill his need to put his name on anything and everything. Thank goodness buildings can be renamed and Presidential Orders aren’t laws so their tenure is only good until the next election.
The second influence which is closely aligned with criminal behavior is the “Protection Racket.” My Trump has been sued by subcontractors, employees and small businesses for a lack of contractual payments while a developer, been found guilty of felony fraud in obtaining loans and falsifying business records, all as a private citizen. Now he is using the power of the Executive Office to withhold moneys approved by Congress, through the process of Impoundment and Rescission, terms unfamiliar to most Americans. In the end Mr Trump, not Congress decides on where money is spent or not spent based on the recipients willingness to tow the line with his dictates. No where in the Constitution can you find any mention of Impoundment or Rescission, the power of the purse is the sole responsibility of the Legislature, The President’s sworn job is to implement and enforce the laws of Congress and insure they are faithfully executed. My Trump has found the “Protection Racket” is a useful tool to coerce law firms, universities, private companies, public companies, even states, promising the release of approved funds and special treatment in the future if those entities comply with My Trump’s wishes. The essence of the “Protection Racket” is the threat of harm and the promise of no harm from the very actor making the threat.
My Trump has learned his lessons well.
