Midway through its nonconference schedule, The Big Green women’s basketball team is off to a 5-2 start.

After suffering a buzzer-beating loss to Merrimack, the Dartmouth women’s bounced back to win two straight.

In the 59-57 on Dec. 2 to the Warriors, Nina Minicozzi was the leading scorer for the Big Green with 13 points, while Olivia Austin had a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double in the loss.

Dartmouth shook off the tough loss and came out ready to play on Friday, defeating Central Connecticut State at home 53-44.

This time, it was Cate Macdonald who led the way offensively with 14 points. Minicozzi also had another solid scoring day, adding 12 points. 

The Big Green followed up that win with another when they hosted Bucknell on Sunday. Dartmouth bested the Bison, 53-45.

Once again, it was Minicozzi who led her squad with 14 points. Zeynep Ozel and Austin also added 10 points each.

With the wins, the Big Green find themselves on a two-game winning streak and are 5-2. They will look to keep things going when they visit NJIT on Thursday. 

Menโ€™s hockey remains undefeated

The Big Green continued their winning ways last week, first on Friday when they hosted Brown. Dartmouth defeated the Bears 7-3 in what was the Hayden Stavroff show. 

Stavroff, who has since been named ECAC Forward of the Week, scored four times in the win and added an assist. Hank Cleaves, Matt Fusco, and Nikita Nikora also lit the lamp for Dartmouth. 

Dartmouthโ€™s winning continued on Saturday when Yale came to town and was beaten 6-1. Stavroff, once again, had multiple goals for his squad โ€” this time, it was two. Andrew Clarke, Colin Grable, Cleaves, and Eric Charpentier had a goal each, and Emmett Croteau, who was named the Hockey Coaches Association national goalie of the month for November, had 15 saves. 

As the Big Greenโ€™s winning has continued, their ascent in the USCHO.com rankings has too. Dartmouth, 10-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play, is now ranked eighth nationally and even got a first-place vote in the latest poll. 

Dartmouth will look to keep its winning streak alive on Friday when it hosts Army. 

Menโ€™s basketball splits two games 

The Big Green started last week with a narrow 69-68 win over New Hampshire at home on Wednesday. 

Kareem Thomas led Dartmouth in scoring with 18 points, while Brandon Mitchell-Day, who had 15 points, and Jayden Williams, who had 14 points, also contributed on the offensive end. 

The win over New Hampshire was Dartmouthโ€™s third in a row, but it could not extend its streak to four when it visited Wyoming, and fell 93-80. Thomas was the leading scorer once again with 27 points. 

Dartmouth is now 3-4 and visits Colorado State on Tuesday. 

Womenโ€™s swimming and diving wins Golden Grizzly Classic

The Big Green finished first at the event that wrapped up over the weekend and was hosted by Oakland University in Michigan. 

Sydney Rawie, Izzy Mundee, Carinn Bethea, and Samantha Li finished first in the 800m freestyle relay, while Sena Bozkurt, Erika Ilkiu, Lane Murray, and Li finished second in the 200m medley relay on Wednesday. 

The Big Green dominance continued on Thursday with Mundee breaking a team record in the 500m freestyle. 

On Friday, Bozkurt won the 100m butterfly, Bethea won the 200m freestyle, and Maggie Lambdin picked up a victory in three-meter diving. 

Finally, on Saturday, Bethea won the 100m freestyle and broke a school record in the process. 

Menโ€™s swimming and diving finishes second at Golden Grizzly Classic

The Big Green had a strong performance at the Oakland University-hosted event. Andrew Chou, David Kushnirsky, Jacob Turner, and William McClelland broke a program record in the 200m medley relay and finished second on Wednesday. 

On Thursday, Turner broke a pool record in the 200m individual medley, McClelland and McCoy Lyman broke school records, the former in the 50m freestyle and the latter in three-meter diving. 

As for Friday, more records were broken. Jagger Stachtiaris broke a program record in the 100m butterfly, and Chou did so in the 100m backstroke. 

On Saturday, the 200m backstroke program record was broken by Chou, and Turner won the 200m butterfly. 

Womenโ€™s hockey halts skid 

On Friday, the Big Green suffered their sixth loss in a row when RPI came to town and beat them, 3-1. Kenzington Lehman was the lone goal scorer for Dartmouth in the loss. 

However, the losing streak was snapped at six on Saturday as the Big Green and visiting Union played to a scoreless tie. Union went on to win the shootout 3-2. Michaela Hesovรก had 21 saves in the matchup. 

Dartmouth, 2-10-2 overall and 2-6-2 in conference play, will search for a win when it hosts Saint Michael’s on Friday. 

Indoor track and field competes at Massachusetts meets 

The Big Green were hard at work this weekend in the HBCU and Ivy Challenge, hosted by Harvard, and the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by BU. 

Colton McMaster was first in the shot put for the men, and ลฝaneta Pivcovรก was third for the women. 

Maya Pacarro was second in the triple jump for the women, while Charlotte DiRocco was second in the high jump. 

The men swept the top three places in the pole vault. David Adams, who finished first, was followed by Jack Tan and Sam Starrs. 

Winston Morgan was second in the 200m for the men, Richard Rozkydalek was second in the 600m.

The Dartmouth December Invitational, hosted by the college, begins on Friday. 

Menโ€™s squash wins back-to-back matches

After falling to Harvard on the road last Tuesday, 9-0, the Big Green bounced back. 

First, they traveled to Bowdoin on Friday and won, 9-0, where Gurshan Jolly, Sam Boulanger, Wei Yan Tho, Arihant Kalamangalan Sunil, Callan Venkatesan, Felix Feldman, Brandon Wang, Rohan Ray, and Warren Klein picked up wins. 

Then on Saturday, the Big Green came away with another road victory, 8-1, against Colby. Jolly, Tho, Sunil, Venkatesan, Feldman, Wang, Ray, and Klein had the wins. 

The Big Green are now 3-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. They do not gear up again until Jan. 15 against Amherst. 

Womenโ€™s squash picks up consecutive wins 

Like the menโ€™s squad, the women fell to Harvard, 9-0, on the road last Tuesday, but answered with wins in their next two matchups. 

First, the Big Green defeated Bowdoin on the road, 9-0. Maria Clara Ramรญrez, Xiang Xiang Liu, Ellie Clifford, Maya Shroff, Maya Mansoor, Nathalie Taylor, Kriti Muthu, Callie Worth, and Uma Patnaik picked up wins. 

That win was followed up by another on Saturday on the road against Colby, 6-3. Shroff, Mansoor, Taylor, Muthu, Worth, and Patnaik had the wins. 

The Big Green are now 3-2 overall, 0-1 in conference play, and will next play Jan. 15 against Amherst. 

Clark named AFCA FCS Assistant Coach of the Year 

Keith Clark, the Big Greenโ€™s offensive line coach, earned the award from the American Football Coaches Association. This is the second straight year a Big Green coach has received the award. 

Womenโ€™s soccer players earn United Soccer Coaches honors

Last week, Anna Leschly, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division I All-East Region Second-Team. Stephanie Lathrop, who had nine goals and four assists this season, was named to the Third Team.

Equestrian athletes earn ECAC honors 

Cassidy Exner in fences and Elise Stephens in flats were named riders of the week, while Alexa Strauss was named the Standout Student-Athlete of the Month. Candy the horse, of Dartmouth, was also named Horse of the Month.
