WOODSTOCK โ€” Municipal Manager Eric Duffy has been named one of three finalists to lead the City of Montpelier.

Duffy has served has Woodstock’s municipal manager since February 2023. Prior to landing in Woodstock, he was employed as a town accountant in Stoneham, Mass.

Duffy did not return requests for comment prior to deadline on Friday.

During his tenure as municipal manager, Duffy oversaw the townโ€™s purchase of its water system from a private company and recovery efforts from flooding in July 2023. He also has been involved in an ongoing conflict about the police department’s leadership.

The two other finalists for the Montpelier job are from out of state, according to a Wednesday news release from the City of Montpelier. One is a commissioner in Pitkin County in Colorado and the other recently resigned as city manager of Pinole, Calif.

โ€œSelecting a City Manager is about finding the right-fit candidate for the community, and we are pleased to present three individuals whose character and skills match the needs for this position,โ€ Montpelier Mayor Jack McCullough said in the release.

Montpelier is currently without a city manager. Kelly Murphy, who has served as interim city manager since June, will leave Montpelier at the end of the year after being named education finance director with the Vermont Agency of Education, according to The Bridge, a Montpelier-based newspaper.

The city aims to have a new city manager in place in January, according to a timeline posted to the city’s website.
