CHARLESTOWN โ€” A man whom police shot in town last month after authorities say he brandished a knife has been charged with a felony, two misdemeanors and two motor vehicle violations in Sullivan County Superior Court.

Christian Paquette, 23, of Claremont, is accused of failing to stop his car when a police officer signaled for him to.

The vehicle was unregistered, and Paquette was driving at over 100 mph on Claremont Road (Route 12A), according to charging documents.

He faces a charge of criminal threatening, a class B felony, for allegedly brandishing a knife at a responding officer after authorities say he fled from his vehicle on foot.

The officer, identified Wednesday as Charlestown Police Officer Jacob Sands, fired his gun when Paquette came toward him with the knife, the N.H. Attorney General’s Office said in a news release after the incident.

As of Wednesday evening, Paquette remained hospitalized. A report by the Attorney General’s Office on the officer’s use of force is in the works.

A news release from the office Wednesday did not specify the number of times Paquette was shot or where on his body, but said he was recovering from “gunshot wounds.”
