WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — U.S. Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., has scheduled a town hall meeting in the Upper Valley on Thursday to discuss the government shutdown.

The meeting will allow Balint to hear directly from residents and “answer any questions you have about this government shutdown,” according to the event description.

The shutdown, which began on Oct. 1, is the longest ever. The shutdown, largely centered around health care subsidies, has thrown many federal programs into uncertainty in Vermont and New Hampshire, such as heating assistance, SNAP benefits and state reimbursements.

Thursday’s meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Northern Stage’s Barrette Center for the Arts at 74 Gates St. in White River Junction.

Tickets can bet reserved on the Northern Stage website. Doors open at 5:30. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to allow for check-in and security screening.

Questions or comments for Balint should be submitted to her office by phone at 802-652-2450 or online at balint.house.gov.
