The top-seeded Cardinals got three goals from Payton Ferland and two goals and an assist from Liza McManus to defeat 16th-seeded Sanborn (4-10-3), 7-0, in the first round of the NHIAA Division III soccer playoffs at Monadnock Park on Tuesday.

Bailey Leavitt added a goal and two assists for the undefeated Cardinals (17-0), and Audrina Pelton had her 17th win in goal and 14th shutout on the year. Jillian Castaneda had one goal, and Zoey Friesen and Ella Muenzer each had one assist for Stevens, which scored three goals in the first half and added four after the break.

“We talk a lot about different ways to tactically attack different teams,” Stevens coach Tim St. Pierre said. “I love that we have different dimensions. All of them include playing with force but not forcing it.”

Stevens will play the Fall Mountain Wildcats, the ninth seed, in a quarterfinal game on Friday at Monadnock Park. Fall Mountain (9-5-3) defeated Trinity, the eighth seed, 1-0

Portsmouth 3, Hanover 2
