Come to Kilton Library in West Lebanon from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 for a Backyard Composting Workshop being presented by Cat Buxton, founder of the Upper Valley Super Compost Project.
This organization has helped to create living, thriving compost systems in over 20 regional schools’ outdoor classrooms. A recent Valley News article (May 10) highlighted the details and success of this program at Sharon Elementary School.
Food waste takes up 22% of landfill volume nationally. Composting our food waste along with diverting solid waste from landfills is a necessary step toward a cleaner environment. There are currently 22 regional municipalities that utilize Lebanon’s Solid Waste Facility. Without a concerted effort to reduce, reuse and recycle solid waste and compost food waste, the current landfill will reach capacity in five years. Locating and building a new landfill will cost Lebanon taxpayers millions of dollars.
Whether you’re already composting or wonder how to begin, this workshop will help guide you through the ABCs all the way to the XYZs.
