Christopher Hopkins will replace former Head of School Doug Heavisides, who left the position at the end of last school year to teach English at White River Valley High School in South Royalton.

Most recently, Hopkins served in a leadership role for a program that prepared young adults with autism and ADHD for higher education and career opportunities as well as independent and communal living, according to a statement on The Wilder School’s website announcing his new position.

The Wilder School is part of the Hartford School District. Located in the center of the village, the school offers educational programs for students who experience a range of behavioral challenges and developmental disabilities, including autism.

Hopkins has previously served as assistant head of school at the Hill School, a preparatory boarding school in Pennsylvania, and as head of school at Springfield Commonwealth Academy, a private school in Massachusetts.

Hopkins also has taught English to students in all grade levels in England and Botswana, the announcement said.
