We can trust ECFiber!
ECFiber is being attacked by GWI (Great Works Internet), the corporation that was hired as the operating company.
Because ECFiber is a community-owned, nonprofit municipality, another company needs to be hired for the day to day operations. The cable on the poles, the trucks, the desks in the office, everything, is owned by ECFiber and in extension, by the member towns and us.
ECFiber has a governing board of delegates, two from every town that is served by the network. (I was one from the start in 2008-2015). The board decided not to renew the contract with GWI partly because GWI planned to outsource many of the local jobs, including the call-in center. Those calls would be forwarded and greatly diminish the quality of customer service. (I feel certain everyone knows what that’s like.) It’s just not in-keeping with the mission of ECFiber which can be found in the “about us” tab at ecfiber.net.
Since the non-renewal of their contract, which ends on Dec. 31, GWI has started a slander campaign of propaganda in attempt to undermine confidence in ECFiber. What GWI is saying is simply not true. ECFiber has formed a new nonprofit operating company, called VISPO, and is stocking it with experts to take over the network on Jan. 1. We can trust them to continue to serve our best interests.
What GWI is trying to do to ECFiber is downright spiteful and shamefully bad business. Their attack is not just on ECFiber; it extends to everyone in the 31 member towns. GWI wants to drive our local internet company into the ground and then they’ll leave.
Let’s all stand with ECFiber, our Vermont community-owned fiber optic network!
