Today, I was filled with sorrow over the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. My husband and I attended one of his dinners in Chicago with some 900 young people who were there to express their love of America and share their conservative values with each other. Not a single angry word was uttered.

I am a Christian, a Republican and a patriot, a position that is reviled by those who choose anger and hatred. When those who did not share my values were elected president, I got up every day and lived my life to its fullest. I never attacked those who did not share my beliefs, I never censored them or screamed in their faces. I believe in the first amendment and would never prevent them from speaking.

The hatred, antisemitism and attacks on anyone who chooses a different ideology has to stop now. My father fought in the Pacific in World War II and my mother was in the WACS. I have often thought how heartbroken they would be knowing the freedoms they fought for are being destroyed.
