In reference to my recent letter (“Time to starve Israel,” Aug. 13), I want to stress the idea of people-pressure through nonviolent means. Palestine solidarity groups worldwide are promoting a nonviolent method of pressuring the Israeli regime by not financially and materially supporting its military and by boycotting Israeli products. I wish to be clear, this method of divesting (starving Israel of money, not food) is nonviolent and why it worked 30 years ago in pressuring the apartheid government of South Africa to finally allow the black majority the right to vote. It will work now as it did then.
