President Trump reportedly asked New Hampshire’s Republican-controlled state Legislature to rig the 2026 Congressional election. Why? Because Trump is understandably worried voters will vote Republicans out of the US House of Representatives next year. He knows he has not followed through on his campaign promises (to end wars, reduce inflation, deport only criminals, etc.). Americans are realizing he and the Republican Party are failing middle and working class families in favor of his wealthy friends.
But, instead of putting forth popular policies that actually benefit Americans and win votes for Republicans, Trump wants to “fix” the election by changing the voting districts to favor Republican candidates.
State legislatures normally redraw Congressional districts based on the results of the US Census, which occurs every 10 years. The Texas Legislature did just that in October 2021. But Trump asked Texas Republicans to re-draw their districts now rather than wait until after the 2030 Census. They are creating five new Republican-leaning districts in Texas.
Trump wants the New Hampshire Legislature to do the same thing — to make one or both of New Hampshire’s Congressional districts a sure thing for a Republican candidate, rather than competitive districts in which candidates from both major parties have a real chance to win.
Granite Staters, contact your state representatives and senators. Tell them not to alter our Congressional districts until after the 2030 Census, as has been the normal practice.
