UNITY — A 70-year-old Unity man was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon following a large police response on Lemere Road.

Joseph Dooley, who lives on Lemere Road, was arrested and charged with a felony-level offense of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release on Thursday evening.

Details about the response were not immediately available. But the large presence of both state troopers and sheriff’s deputies in Unity moved New Hampshire State Police to issue an alert Thursday afternoon that residents “may see uniformed law enforcement personnel in the area,” while adding “troopers believe there is no imminent threat to public safety.”

Dooley was held overnight at the Sullivan County House of Corrections in Unity and is scheduled for arraignment in Claremont Circuit Court on Friday, the news release said.
