CLAREMONT โ€” Repaving of the city’s main roadway throughย the commercial district is scheduled to begin this week during the nighttime hours, according to the Claremont Department of Public Works.

The first step, beginning on either Tuesday or Wednesday, will be grinding the existing pavement on Washington Street.

The first part of the project is expected to take about six days and will be followed by paving of the four-lanes from the Puksta Bridge to the intersection with Roberts Hill Road to the east, a distance of 2.3 miles.

To avoid traffic congestion, the work will be done overnight from 8 p.m. to between 5 and 6 a.m.

The $1.24 millionย project is slated to take about two and a half weeks, but that schedule could change based on weather. The contractor is Pike Industries of Belmont, N.H.ย
