QUECHEE โ€” The Hartford Fire Department has completed construction of a new wing to Fire Station 2 on Willard Road in Quechee.

The station has been fully operational since last Wednesday, the department posted on social media last week.

Construction for the $1.3 million addition, which includes an office and living space, began last December.

The new wing enables two firefighters to be available at the station around the clock, the Valley News reported in January. One fire truck and ambulance are stationed at the site.

The 24-hour service should help reduce the emergency response time in West Hartford and Quechee, which is roughly double the 7.5-minute response time in the rest of the departmentโ€™s coverage area of Hartford Village, White River Junction and Wilder, Chief Scott Cooney told the Valley News in January.

The departmentโ€™s primary station is located at VA Cutoff Road in White River Junction, roughly an 11-minute drive from Fire Station 2 at 131 Willard Road near Quechee Public Library.

A ribbon cutting for Fire Station 2 is slated for later this summer.
