NEWPORT — A minor sustained serious injuries in an ATV crash on a public road in Newport on Monday afternoon, New Hampshire Fish and Game reported in a news release.
The unidentified minor was riding an ATV on Hurd Road when he lost control of the vehicle and jumped off it before it “rolled several times.”
The minor sustained “serious injuries as a result of the crash,” Fish and Game said.
A riding partner on a separate ATV drove back to the residence from where their ride originated to seek help. Newport Police, Newport Fire and Ambulance and conservation officers all responded to the scene to assist.
The minor operator was transported from the scene by Newport Ambulance to Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont. He later was flown by helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for further treatment.
After an investigation, Fish and Game said it believes “speed and rider inexperience were all contributing factors in the crash.”
NH Fish and Game reminds off-highway recreational vehicle riders they are required to operate their vehicles only on designated trails or where permission has been granted to ride.
ATV riders also are prohibited from driving on public roadways unless they have been designated for ATV use by the state or town under whose jurisdiction the road falls.
