WEST LEBANON — Two Lebanon residents, a mom and her teenage son found themselves trapped on the edge of the Connecticut River near Bridge Street Monday evening after an attempt to cool off went awry.
The Lebanon Fire Department responded to a call from a passerby at about 5 p.m. who reported that the two were calling for help while holding onto a tree branch in the water, Fire Chief Jim Wheatley said Tuesday.
The pair “were trying to cool off in the river and got in trouble with the current,” Wheatley said.
The Lebanon Fire Department’s swift water rescue team, with assistance from the Hanover and Hartford Fire Departments, were able to help the two over the riverbank onto shore.
After being pulled from the river, the two did not need any medical attention or further help from emergency services, Wheatley said.
