WOODSTOCK — Cooper Brochu, fisheries specialist with the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department Fisheries Division, stocked yearling rainbow trout in the Ottauquechee River last month.

Brochu and other members of the department stocked about 2,800 rainbow trout in the stretch of river between Bridgewater and Quechee.

The department has been evaluating a new strain of rainbow trout that is currently stocked in states like Michigan and Maine to see how it compares to the strain typically stocked in Vermont waterways in terms of catchability, survivability and growth.
