Lebanon High School science John Tietjen has received a Presidential Award for Excellence in mathematics and science. Tietjen has taught chemistry and physical science for a decade at the high school, according to a news release from the Lebanon School District.
“John’s students regularly engage with novel research, engineering, and laboratory challenges both during class time and outside of class,” according to the release. “His work as a Science Olympiad coach, community STEM event organizer, and research project mentor allows his students to connect meaningfully with the greater scientific community.”
Tietjen was one of five New Hampshire educators to receive the award, according to a news release from the New Hampshire Department of Education.
“These five outstanding educators are being recognized for their exceptional ability to engage and motivate, and we applaud them for this well-deserved honor,” Commissioner Frank Edelblut of the New Hampshire Department of Education said in the release. “Their unwavering dedication to STEM learning and innovation continues to shape brighter futures for our students.”
Mindi Wimett, a math teacher at White River Valley Middle School in Bethel, was also recognized with a Presidential Award for Excellence in mathematics and science. Wimett has taught at the middle school for six years, according to a news release from the National Science Foundation.
“Mindi works to incorporate relevant and authentic learning opportunities into her curriculum,” according to the release, noting that she uses menus, grocery fliers and travel websites in her lesson plans to teach students about percentages, discounts, taxes, tips, and interest.
