Secondary accomplishments

Lebanon High School has selected Marco Getchell as its December Student-of-the-Month. “Part of what makes Marco so special is his determination to be his best possible self and to always improve,” Lebanon High teacher Erin Madory, who nominated Getchell, said in a news release. “It’s clear that Marco has made a decision about who he wants to be and will always work as hard as he needs to in order to accomplish his goals.”

The following Upper Valley residents were nominated to the United States Service Academies by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.), and Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vt.): Schuyler Clapp, Norwich, U.S. Airforce Academy, U.S. Military Academy and U.S. Naval Academy; Levi Halley, Woodstock, U.S. Military Academy; Aidan Keough-Vella, Bridgewater Corners, U.S. Air Force Academy; and Luke Miller, Strafford, U.S. Naval Academy.

Post-secondary accomplishments

Hanover resident Hallie Baker, who is studying archaeology at Boston University, is one of 36 students to earn a 2025 Marshall Scholarship for graduate study in the United Kingdom. Baker “works on the Khmer Statuary Project, which aims to assess whether facial recognition software can be applied to Cambodian statuary and help identify looted Cambodian antiquities,” according to a news release from the British Consulate-General Boston. She will be enrolled in the University of Cambridge’s heritage studies program.

Reilly Loughman, of Norwich, made the 2024 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) fall all-academic team for field hockey. Loughman is a sophomore at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.

Talia Fritzhand, of Woodstock, was inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at University of Rhode Island.

Ethan Mello, of West Windsor, was inducted into the Alpha of Vermont chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Vermont.

Emily Seiler, of Enfield, made the dean’s list at Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y., for the fall 2024 semester.

Lily Welch, of White River Junction, made the dean’s list at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., for the fall 2024 semester.

Tamara Kinsman, of Perkinsville, made the president’s list at Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb., for the fall 2024 semester.

Molly Reed, of Sunapee, made the dean’s list at Berry College in Rome, Ga., for the fall 2024 semester.
