WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Sophomore guard Victoria Page scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Dartmouth College women’s basketball team to its second win of the season Saturday, a 71-56 triumph over Monmouth.

Page played 36 minutes, going 10-for-19 from the field and 3-for-6 from 3-point range. The Big Green (2-7) scored 24 points in the first quarter, and after the Hawks closed the gap to three at halftime, Dartmouth outscored Monmouth 19-6 in the third to put the game away.

As a team, the Big Green made 47.6% of their field goal attempts, their highest rate of the season.

“It was a total team effort and Victoria had an amazing performance,” Dartmouth coach Adrienne Shibles said. “We executed the game plan and played with confidence and poise. This road win is evidence of the growth and togetherness of this team and I am eager to see them continue to rise.”

The Big Green return to Leede Arena on Tuesday to face Drexel. Belle Koclanes, an assistant on the Dragons’ coaching staff, was the head coach at Dartmouth from 2013 until 2020 and went 77-117 during her seven seasons in Hanover.

Dartmouth suffered a 68-52 home loss to the Catamounts last Tuesday night, the 14th straight time Vermont has defeated the Big Green. Friday night in New Britain, Conn., Dartmouth fell to Central Connecticut State, 59-50, the first win of the season for the Blue Devils.

Against the Catamounts, the Big Green trailed by 20 at the half and could never recover. Senior forward Dame Adelekun had 17 points, but Dartmouth made just four of 20 attempts from beyond the arc.

Poor 3-point shooting was again the Big Green’s kryptonite against CCSU, as Dartmouth was just 7-for-34 from deep. Sophomore forward Cade Haskins finished with 12 points and sophomore guard Ryan Cornish had 10.

The Big Green face Boston University on the road on Tuesday.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY Dartmouth splits home-and-home with Merrimack

Junior Annie King’s overtime, power play goal lifted the Big Green to a 2-1 win over the Warriors on Wednesday in North Andover, Mass., but Merrimack returned the favor Saturday with a 4-3 victory at Thompson Arena.

Wednesday’s affair was scoreless into the third period, when junior Sophie Robinson’s goal gave Dartmouth the lead with assists from freshman Cally Dixon and senior CC Bowlby. The Warriors evened things four minutes later, but Bowlby and junior Jenna Donohue set up King for the game-winner. Freshman goaltender Elle Sullivan made 13 saves.

Merrimack took a two-goal lead after the first period Saturday, but the Big Green scored twice in 62 seconds in the second to tie the game. Senior Georgia Kraus put Dartmouth on the board, assisted by freshman Izee Powell and junior Abby Grexton. Sophomore Laura Fuoco delivered the equalizer, with assists from Bowlby and senior Currie Putrah.

The Warriors went back in front with two goals in a 29-second span early in the third period. Donohue’s goal with 20 seconds left was mere consolation.

The River Hawks restored their two-goal edge before second intermission before Dartmouth again pulled within one late in the third as freshman Luke Haymes scored his team-best seventh of the season. Sophomore Sean Chisholm and Fusco had assists. Freshman goaltender Cooper Black made 22 saves in the losing effort.

Two days later, the Big Green trailed Vermont by three after 20 minutes of play, and the Catamounts added single goals in the second and third periods. Senior Tyler Campbell’s unassisted goal in the third saved Dartmouth from being shut out. Black made 30 saves.
