Republican incumbents Steve Smith and Walter Spilsbury, both of Charlestown, and Skip Rollins, of Newport, easily won re-election in the Sullivan 3 House district representing Charlestown, Newport and Unity.
Rollins received the most votes, 2,684, followed by Smith with 2,428 votes and Spilsbury with 2,204. Former Democratic state Rep. Virginia Irwin, placed fourth with 1,874 votes followed by Charlestown Democrat John Streeter with 1,628 votes and Newport Democrat Linda Wadensten with 1,512.
Smith, the Deputy Speaker of the House, was elected to his seventh, two-year term, Rollins his sixth and Spilsbury second. The incumbents received the most votes in each town. The closest result was in Newport where Spilsbury placed third with 997 votes and Irwin fourth with 973.
