Where once there was a Radio Shack there will soon be a doc-in-the-box.
Three years after it first made its proposal to the city and two years after it reached a compromise with the planning office over signage, ConvenientMD Urgent Care has been issued a building permit and begun work on a $750,000 project to tear out the former Radio Shack store, D’Angelo’s Sandwich Shop and part of Citizens Bank’s space to make room for a walk-in medical clinic on the heavily trafficked Route 12A corridor in West Lebanon.
The 5,136-square-foot space will include nine exam rooms, two triage rooms and an x-ray examination room which will be topped on the northwest corner of the building with a square-shaped “canopy” extending 16.6 feet above the roof line that will show exterior signage identifying ConvenientMD Urgent Care on three sides of structure, according to plans. ConvenientMD did not respond to requests for comment on Monday about when it hopes to have construction completed and open the walk-in clinic.
Founded by two former colleagues at a Chicago investment firm, ConvenientMD opened its first walk-in clinic in 2012 in Windham, N.H., and quickly expanded to about 35 locations in New England. Bain Capital acquired control of the start-up last year.
The AT&T phone store, in the southwest corner of the building, will remain in its current space. The building, once the home of Brown Furniture before it moved across and down the street, is still owned by the Brown family.
