HANOVER — After nine years and eight seasons, Ron Rainey is out as head coach of the Dartmouth College women’s soccer team. Athletic Director Mike Harrity announced Sunday that Rainey’s contract would not be renewed.

Rainey compiled an overall record of 65-51-16 since being hired prior to the 2014 season, but his teams were just 13-32-11 in Ivy League play. The Big Green finished second in his first season in charge, but since then have finished in the top half of the standings just once. Dartmouth was 8-7-2 this fall, but a mere 1-5-1 against Ancient Eight foes.

Prior to arriving in Hanover, Rainey spent eight seasons as the head coach at Iowa, leading the Hawkeyes to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history in his final season in 2013. The Big Green last won the Ivy League in 2003 and last made the NCAA Tournament in 2005.

“We are grateful for all Coach Rainey has done for the Dartmouth women’s soccer program,” Harrity said in a news release. “We wish Ron and his family our best.”

The release said Dartmouth will immediately begin a national search for Rainey’s successor.
