HANOVER — Hanover began the high school crew season with a strong showing against Concord.by capturing four of five races on the Connecticut River on Saturday.

Coach Julie Stevenson said the water was calm and the first boat girls and first boat boys were dominant in their 1,400-meter upstream races. The girls won by about 16 seconds (5:13.8 to the Crimton Tide’s 5:29.5), and the boys were victorious by 12 seconds (4:46.1 to 4:58.6). Hanover’s second girls won with a time of 5:41.4 for a 13-second decision, and the second boys came in at 5:02.1 to win by about 11 seconds. Concord won against Hanover’s fourth girls boat.

The Bears will row in Andover, Mass., next weekend.

Baseball WRV 10, Oxbow 3

SOUTH ROYALTON — The Wildcats pounded out 12 hits and got strong pitching from senior Macin Gaudette and freshman Donovan Craven to up their record to 4-0.

Gaudette gave up two earned runs and three hits while striking out five. Craven, who was also 2-for-4 at the plate, struck out six in three innings, surrendering just two hits.

Senior Dominic Craven was 3-for-3 and two runs scored, and junior Robby McShinsky had a hit and scored twice for WRV. Senior Austin Tracy had an RBI and senior Jamesen Rousell had a hit and scored twice for the Wildcats.

White River (4-0) is home to Thetford on Tuesday, while Oxbow (0-3) welcomes North Country on Tuesday.

Hanover 7, Coe-Brown 2Coe-Brown 7, Hanover 5

NORTHWOOD, N.H. — The visiting Bears (3-1) won the early game of Saturday’s doubleleader with the host Bears (4-2), scoring seven runs on just six hits but taking advantage of 11 walks. Senior Sam Sacerdote kept Coe-Brown in check, allowing three hits in six innings and striking out six.

Coe-Brown took a 2-0 lead after one inning, but Hanover scored three runs in third and three in the fifth sandwiched around a one-run fourth. Senior DeClan Flynn had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run for Hanover.

In the second game, Hanover got two hits and three RBIs from senior Mason Gantrish but were victimized by shoddy defense. The visiting Bears, who committed six errors leading to five unearned runs, scored once in the third and fourth to cut a 3-0 Coe-Brown lead to 3-2, but the hosts scored four runs in the middle three innings to lead 7-3 after six.

Senior Wes Stocken pitched four innings for Hanover, allowing five hits. Sophomore Jackson McBride and Ian Hedgepath had each contributed two of Hanover’s eight hits overall.

Burr and Burton 14, Windsor 4

MANCHESTER, Vt. — The Yellowjackets gave up 12 runs in the first three innings and were never able to mount a comeback.

Windsor had five hits on the days, while Burr and Burton had 14.

Windsor (1-2) is home against Bellows Falls Tuesday.

Boys lacrosse Portsmouth 16, Hanover 4

HANOVER — Junior Brendan Logan had two goals and an assist and junior Jack Gardner and senior D.H.Hendricks had a goal each for Hanover in the loss.

Portsmouth had a 5-2 lead after one quarter and built it to 16-2 after three quarters. Hanover freshman Henry Cotter had 19 saves in goal.

Hanover (2-2) travels to Derryfield Monday.

Hartford 16, Otter Valley 1

BRANDON, Vt. — Junior Joseph Barwood led Hartford with five goals and the Hurricanes saw a few firsts, including the first varsity goals for freshman Austin. St. Peter and Nick Daniels and the first varsity point for sophomore Bryce Soboleski.

Senior Gordon Willey had three goals, as did sophomore Ryan Spaulding, who added an assist,

Tarin Prior had six saves and junior Austin Guilbault four in goal for Hartford.

Hartford (3-0) is home Tuesday against Rice

WOODSTOCK — After winning their opening game, the Wasps (1-3) have lost three straight and will try to get back on track Tuesday when they travel to Rutland.

Boys tennis Hartford 5, Mount Anthony 2

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes won three singles matches, two by close scores, and two doubles matches by forfeit to defeat Mount Anthony.

The Hurricanes’ Andre Damiani de Souza won first singles, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), followed by a second singles win by Ethan Michaels, 7-5, 7-5. Fourth singles player Ben Frasier had an easier time, 6-0, 6-0.

Hartford improved to 2-0 and will welcome Mt. St. Joseph’s on Wednesday.

Girls tennis Woodstock 7, Hartford 0

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps won their opening match with five singles victories, one by forfeit, and two wins in doubles.

No. 1 Hannah Watson, No. 2 Meridian Joy-Piper and No. 4 Kendall Taylor won in straight sets, while No. 3 Sophia Nisimblat won in three sets. Straight-set winners in doubles for Woodstock were Celeste Belisle/Charlotte Nunan and Zoe Wood/Chloe Masillo.

Woodstock (1-0) is home to Mount Anthony Tuesday, while Hartford welcomes Mount St. Anthony on Saturday.

Track and Field Lebanon, Hanover compete at Sanborn

KINGSTON, N.H. — Hanover and Lebanon boys and girls had several top finishes at Saturday’s Sanborn Invitational with 21 teams.

Hanover grabbed wins from senior Emma Kleber (girls high jump), junior Ian Solberg (boys high jump), junior Katherine Valentino (girls shot put) and freshman Andrew Valentino (boys 1,600-meter run). Lebanon junior Biranhu Harriman was first in the 3,200 meters and the Raiders’ Nyeoti Punni, a senior, won the 200 meters and was second in the 100.

The Lebanon girls won the 4×100 relay, and the Hanover boys took first in the 4×800, with Lebanon third. Hanover’s girls were second in the 4×400.

Hanover’s Evan Simpson was second in the boys discus and Hanover sophomore Sarah Glueck was second in the 3,200 run, with Lebanon junior Isabella Hastings third. Hanover freshman Heidi Davis was second in the 1,600 meters, and freshman teammate Alden Pope was second in the 800.
