NEW LONDON — Bill Helm bested Colin Beasley for a three-year term on the Selectboard.
Helm received 558 votes to Beasley’s 460.
In a six-way race for three seats on the budget committee, Mark Christensen (454 votes), John Wilson (437) and Lou Botta (415) won three-year terms. They defeated Charles Kelsey (348), Michael Williams (310) and John Cannon (267).
Gerald “Jerry” Coogan and Judith Fox were selected to serve three-year terms on the Library Board of Trustees. Coogan received 570 votes and Fox received 497 to defeat Joanne Palmisano, who received 399 votes.
Voters also approved four changes to the town’s zoning ordinance which concerned lot size requirements.
At Wednesday’s floor meeting, all spending and warrant articles passed.
Among the measures adopted is an ordinance that would encourage reusable bags and ban the use of single-use plastic bags at store checkouts starting in 2023 in order to cut down on plastic pollution in New London.
Residents also agreed to a $600,000 bond to fund renovations on the Town Hall building.
Voters also approved a $1.5 million general fund budget, $2.5 million for public safety and $3.03 million for highways, streets and sanitation.
