CANTON, N.Y. — The Dartmouth College women’s hockey exploded for five goals in the third period and Maggie Emerson made 38 saves for a 6-2 victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday, the Big Green’s first win over the Saints in seven years.
St. Lawrence scored first at 14:43 of the first, but Currie Putrah got the first of her two goals 14 seconds later to tie the game.
After a scoreless second period, Dartmouth got rolling with three goals in less than seven minutes. Tiffany Hill broke the tie on a power play 49 seconds in followed by Catherine Trevors’ first of the year at 3:34. Gabby Billing scored Dartmouth’s first shorthanded goal of the season at 7:39 on a breakaway to make it 4-1.
When the Saints pulled their goalie for an extra skater around the 14-minute mark, Dartmouth made them pay when Jenna Donohue got her first goal of her collegiate career. After St. Lawrence scored on a power play with two minutes left, Putrah got her second goal 13 seconds later after the Saints pulled their goalie again.
Dartmouth (2-3-0, 2-3-0) will be back on Tuesday when they host Vermont at 7 p.m.
HANOVER — Ben Berard’s goal with 6.2 seconds left in regulation separated the Big Red (3-1-0 1-1-0 ECAC) from the Big Green (1-3-0, 1-2-0) at Thompson Arena.
Dartmouth erased a pair of one-goal deficits and a two-goal gap but never led. Jeff Losurdo accouted for a pair of Big Green goals along with an assist. Mark Gallant and Matt Hubbarde also scored for Dartmouth, and Justin Ferguson took the loss in goal.
The Big Green visits St. Lawrence and Clarkson next weekend.
HANOVER — Dartmouth scored two second-half goals to defeat Cornell and finish its season at 7-7-1 overall and 2-5-0 in the Ivy League.
Cornell went ahead in the 18th minute and held the lead through the first half despite Dartmouth having the better of play. Fifth-year midfielder Erin Kawakami finally broke through for Dartmouth in the 65th minute by scoring off a rebound from an initial shot by freshman Hannah Curtin, who was credited with an assist.
Junior midfielder Allie Winstanley got the go-ahead goal five minutes later with assists from senior midfielder Izzy Glennon and Kawakami.
PHILADELPHIA — The Big Green dropped its final game of the season and finished 4-13-0 overall and winless in seven Ivy League encounters.
The Quakers scored first in the first quarter before Dartmouth tied it early in the second half on a Holley Cromwell goal set up by Meg Barnes. Penn answered just a minute later for the win.
HANOVER — The Big Green lost in double overtime after junior forward David Alino scored in the 80th minute to tie the game.
In a physical affair that saw 21 fouls, Cornell scored in the 63rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Alino’s goal came when he took the ball down the left side of the field, cut back to the middle then fired into the bottom right corner from the top of the box.
After a scoreless 10 minute overtime, The Big Red scored the game-winner just 50 seconds into the second OT.
Cornell (11-3-1, 4-2 Ivy League) outshot Dartmouth (2-11-1, 0-5-1 Ivy League), 7-2, and senior Dartmouth goalkeeper Alex Budnik made two saves in the half.
Dartmouth closes out the season at Brown next Saturday.
NEW YORK — The Big Green continued their hot streak and will head to the final week of the season having won six of seven, including the last four in a row.
The Big Green beat the Lions (25-17, 25-20, 21-25, 28-26) with Taite Ryan getting 17 kills and 13 digs and Emma Engstrom adding 28 digs and 10 assists.
The Big Green will close the season next weekend at home against Yale and Brown.
