WOODSTOCK — Woodstock firefighters rescued a driver from their car early Thursday morning after they drove into the Ottauquechee River near the Lincoln Covered Bridge.
First responders found the car on its side underneath the covered bridge, with the driver trapped in the vehicle, around 3 a.m., according to a Facebook post from Woodstock Fire/EMS.
Fire crews were able to free the driver from the car and treat them for minor injuries.
The post said the car caused some damage to the bridge but did not release any fluids into the river.
Information on the driver was not immediately available from Woodstock police.
The bridge, which connects Route 4 and Fletcher Hill Road, was damaged last month when a backhoe being towed on a flatbed struck a couple of beams. The bridge has a 10-foot height limit.
