WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Underclassmen took center stage as the Dartmouth College women’s volleyball team ended the Hartford Invitational with a 18-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 15-11 victory over Central Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Ellie Blain (21 kills, 12 digs) and junior Makenzie Arent (35 assist, 11 digs) both had double-doubles for the Big Green (8-1). Blain also had a team-leading 23 points. Freshman Emma Engstrom had three of the team’s five aces. Senior Emma Moffet was first with seven total blocks.
Blain and Moffet were named all-tournament at the end of the weekend.
Done with tournament play, the Green will start Ivy League action on Friday when it hosts Harvard at Leede Arena.
HANOVER — Kate Hall tapped home the game-winning goal out of a fourth-quarter scramble, giving the Catamounts the win over Dartmouth at Chase Field.
Hall’s penalty corner feed set up Puck Kwaspen’s opener in the second quarter. The Big Green (3-3-0) trailed until the fourth quarter when sophomore Lila Browne converted a through-ball pass from Bee Hollyer.
Hall put UVM (5-2-0) ahead to stay about two minutes later.
The Big Green looks to bounce back in Sunday home date with Merrimack.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Dartmouth had another good day at the Brown Invitational, winning seven of 10 singles matches and three of five doubles matches on Saturday.
Five Big Green players went undefeated: Ashley Hess, Chidimma Okpara, Katie Weber, Lexi Dewire and Ujvala Jupalli.
The tournament ends on Sunday.
HANOVER — The Big Green won five singles matches and all but one of its five doubles matches at its Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.
Five Big Green players went 2-0 on the day. Anders Gibbons rebounded from a dropped first set to take the next two to defeat his opponent from Bryant, while Sid Chari had a 6-3, 6-4 win over another player from Bryant. The pair kept the momentum going to win their doubles match, 6-4. Alejandro Ouiles, Hikaru Takeda and Andy Ilie also swept.
The tournament’s final day begins on Sunday at 9 a.m.
