There will be a 20th Anniversary Remembrance Service and First Responder Recognition from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday on the North Common. In addition to recalling the events that took place on 9/11, area first responders will also be honored.
The Lebanon Fire Department will hold a September 11 Remembrance Ceremony from 8:15 to 8:46 a.m. Saturday at Station 1, at 12 S. Park St.
After the ceremony, the names of all first responders killed on 9/11 will be read out loud and the bells will ring. Two spotlights will shine into the sky to represent the Twin Towers. There will be a memorial set up in the stationโs Bay 4 from sunrise to sunset.
Lyme
The Lyme Fire Department will hold a ceremony at its fire station. Beginning at 8:46 a.m., firefighters will sound off sirens to mark when each of the four planes crashed. Sires will also sound at 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m. and 10:03 a.m. Afterward, a final three airhorn blasts will sound to commemorate the first responders and civilians who lost their lives.
People will begin gathering at the Town Common at 8 a.m. for a ceremony that starts at 8:30 a.m. Bell will toll at the time each of four planes crashed, ending at 10:30 a.m. A moment of silence concludes the ceremony. Lempster Firefighters Association will have refreshments for sale with proceeds benefiting the New Hampshire Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
A memorial service will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Ellis Bandstand on the green at 239 Chelsea St. Several speakers will discuss the events that took place on 9/11, and an honor guard will be present.
If it rains, the gathering will be relocated to the United Church at 67 Windsor St., South Royalton.
The White River Junction VA Medical Center will hold a ceremony at the WRJ VA Veteran Memorial on Friday at noon for staff and veterans. The White River Junction Navy Operational Support team will play TAPS and Dr. Brett Rusch, executive director of the medical center, will say a few words to recognize those who have served in the armed forces since 9/11.
