Vermont is less than 2% away from its goal to vaccinate 80% of the population — a milestone that Gov. Phil Scott said will trigger the repeal of all COVID-19 restrictions.
In an effort to cross the finish line, the governor’s office announced Friday that dozens of new walk-in vaccination sites have been put up around the state to make the vaccine more easily accessible.
“As we’re seeing a slowdown in the number of people being vaccinated, we need those who have not yet gotten their shot to find a clinic today,” Scott said in a press release. “It has never been easier, with hundreds of clinics across the state. Vaccines are free, safe and very effective — now is the time.”
As of June 3, 78.6% of the state residents ages 12 and up have gotten at least one shot of a COVID–19 vaccine. That is only 1% higher than last Friday’s vaccination stats, when 77.6% of Vermonters were at least partially vaccinated. As of midday Friday, 7,878 people needed to get vaccinated to reach the 80% goal.
Vermont is the most vaccinated state in the nation per capita. Scott had originally said that the state will fully reopen by July 4. But if the state reaches 80% vaccinated status before then, he said he will roll back all remaining pandemic restrictions.
He’s already rolled back the 10 p.m. curfew on bars and restaurants, and all travel restrictions have been lifted.
The walk-in clinics will be held at state sites, hospitals, schools, businesses and public spaces throughout the state from June 4 to June 7. Pharmacies will also be taking walk-in vaccination appointments.
