GRANTHAM — Spending requests for road improvements, a fire truck and police cruiser sailed through at Town Meeting on Saturday.

Grantham residents voted, 105-22, to back a plan to borrow $500,000 for safety and drainage improvements to Miller Pond Road. And a plan to spend $675,000 for a new fire truck passed, 101-11. The town would borrow $500,000 and use $175,000 from the fire apparatus capital reserve fund for the balance.

Both measures easily surpassed the 60% threshold required for borrowing requests.

The $1.5 million general fund budget, $926,000 public safety budget and $931,000 public works budget all passed by unanimous voice vote.

A proposal to spend $38,000 for a new police cruiser — while also trading in the town’s 2015 Dodge Charger — also won approval by voice vote.

Grantham residents in March had passed a school budget and elected town and school officers by Australian ballot but delayed the floor portion of Town Meeting until Saturday because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
