CLAREMONT — Sam Sacerdote tossed yet another gem to help the Hanover High baseball team earn a 3-0 win at Stevens on Thursday afternoon.

Sacerdote needed just 78 pitches in a complete-game one-hitter, facing just one batter over the minimum. Sacerdote struck out five and didn’t walk anyone. The win improves his record to 4-0 on the season with 30 strikeouts against zero walks in 22 innings pitched.

Stevens starting pitcher Owen Taylor took the hard-luck loss despite allowing just three runs over a complete game effort of his own. Taylor struck out two and walked two.

Hanover (8-0) got on the board in the top of the third inning when Ben Williams doubled and scored on Ian Hedgepeth’s RBI single. Wes Stocken was then hit by a pitch in the fourth inning before coming around to score on Casey Graham’s single to right field. Stocken then led off the sixth with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mason Gantrish. Stocken scored his second run of the game on Colin Pierce’s RBI single.

Hanover is now off until it hosts Newport on May 17. Stevens (2-3) hosts Kearsarge on Saturday.

White River Valley 6, Bellows Falls 4

WESTMINSTER, Vt. — The Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the seventh to steal a win over the Terriers.

Starting pitcher Curtis Barry was 2-for-4 with a key double in the seventh inning. Dominic Craven had two hits, one RBI and scored twice. Carder Stratton was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Tyler Ballentine had a hit and scored a run. Jacob Barry scored twice.

Curtis Barry went the first five innings, striking out four while walking two while allowing eight hits and four runs. Stratton pitched two strong innings of relief for the win, striking out four.

“The boys played well today and didn’t panic. It was a good team win with a good day on the mound for both Curtis and Carder,” WRV coach Devin Cilley said.

The Wildcats (6-0) will host Green Mountain on Saturday.

Thetford 3, Randolph 2

THETFORD —The Panthers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to get the win against the Galloping Ghosts.

Mack Briglin’s RBI single scored Justin Robinson for the game-tying run in the fifth. Robinson eventually scored on a wild pitch for the go-ahead and game-winning run later in the inning.

Logan Brinkman got the win for Thetford, going six innings with seven strikeouts while scattering seven hits. Jacob Gilman earned the save, striking out one while allowing a hit and a walk in the top of the seventh.

“We’ve been playing solid defense this year supporting our starting pitching and we did that again today. Logan pitched well and deep into the game. Jake was able to come in and shut the door in the seventh,” Thetford coach Phil Chaput said.

Ethan Marshia was 1-for-2 and scored Thetford’s first run. The Panthers (4-1) host Lamoille on Saturday.

Hartford 4, Mount Mansfield 3

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Jacob Dwinell was 3-for-4 with a double while scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Hurricanes (6-0).

Dwinell came around for the game-winner when the Cougars misplayed a Nick Martin ground ball. The Canes were opportunistic offensively, scoring their four runs on just five hits. Alex Bushway and Cam Tucker had the other Hartford hits.

Colin Vielleux pitched a complete game for the Canes, striking out five while allowing one earned run on three walks and four hits. Hartford hosts Rutland on Saturday.

 

SOFTBALLNewport 9, Mascoma 1

NEWPORT, N.H. —- The Tigers (3-0) earned the win over the Royals (4-3).

“It’s always disappointing to take a loss, but today I was very pleased with the corrections and the effort the girls showed,” Mascoma assistant coach Christine Labore said.

Mascoma left fielder Maggie Morse made several good plays according to Labore. Tatum Schmidt scored the lone Royals run.

Mascoma visits Sunapee on Tuesday. Newport hosts rival Stevens on Wednesday.

Hartford 25, Burr & Burton 11 (5)

MANCHESTER, Vt. — The Hurricanes picked up their first win of the season.

Pitcher Marina Grassi started for the Canes, pitching the first three innings. Grassi then returned to the circle with two outs in the fifth to pick up the third out and end the game with the bases loaded. Logan Evans pitched the other 1⅔ innings.

“Everyone was hitting the ball tonight, the pitchers were throwing strikes and our fielders made great plays. The little things are coming together for these girls and we will take the momentum from this win into the next game,” Hartford coach Danielle Tenney said.

Hartford (1-3) will host Lyndon under the lights at Maxfield on Friday at 7 p.m.

White River Valley 18, Otter Valley 14

SOUTH ROYALTON — Wildcats starting pitcher Chelsie Trask battled for the win, striking out twelve.

Tanner Drury led the offensive attack for WRV with four hits and four runs scored. Trask and Blake Southworth had three hits and three runs scored each. Fiona Vaillancourt, Julia Morse, Toni Turner and Sadie Kinsley each had two hits.

The Wildcats (7-0) visit Green Mountain on Saturday.

 

BOYS LACROSSEDerryfield 14, Hanover 4

MANCHESTER — Hanover (3-2) wasn’t able to dig out of a big early hole at Derryfield.

Seamus Murphy had three goals to lead the visitors. Angus Frew added one. Noah Fahey had two assists and Brendan Logan had one. Hanover trailed, 8-1, at halftime. Goalie Danny Pitiger made seven saves.

Hanover hosts Manchester Memorial/Central/West on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS LACROSSEHartford 8, Vergennes-Mount Abraham 6

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Zoe Pfeiffer had five goals and an assist while reaching another personal milestone, 100 career goals, to lead the Hurricanes.

“Overall, it was a great lacrosse game by both teams. We had strong defensive play by Ryelee Potwin, Elliot Rupp, Abby Vanderpot and Ella Perreault,” Hartford coach Heather Hartford said.

Jasmine Jenkins added a goal and two assists for the Canes. Reilly Slusser and Chloe Jensen also scored. Sophie Howe tied for the team lead with two assists. Addison Cadwell and Caroline Hamilton had one assist each.

Hartford (5-0) hosts Brattleboro on Monday.

 

BOYS TENNISLebanon 9, Plymouth 0

PLYMOUTH, N.H.— Mason and Nolan Arado each picked up 8-0 wins in singles to lead the Raiders (5-0).

Seamus Hickey also won by an 8-0 final in singles. Karsten Hansen (8-6), Kian Schifferdecker (8-6) and Finn Ericson (8-2) rounded out a perfect singles lineup with wins. The Arados added an 8-0 win in doubles. Hickey/Hansen (8-3) and Jake Hibner/Tyler St. Martin (8-3) also had doubles wins.

Lebanon hosts Keene on Monday.

 

GIRLS TENNISLebanon 8, Plymouth 1

LEBANON — The Raiders (5-1) won their second straight match this week over Plymouth by an 8-1 score.

Kaeley Skakalski picked up an 8-6 win in a tight match at No. 2 singles. Adaa Karanwal (8-4), Crisi Patel (8-0), Aesha Soni (8-0) and Sally Rainey (8-1) also won in singles. Skakalski and Keira Hines added an 8-2 win at the top doubles spot. Patel/Soni (8-2) and Ella Fessner/Karanwal (8-5) also had doubles wins.

The Raiders will visit Stevens on Tuesday.

Woodstock 7, Hartford 0

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Wasps (3-1) shut out the host Hurricanes (0-4).

Woodstock’s Hannah Watson played what coach Tom Hopewell called the match of the day at No. 1 singles, beating Hartford’s Nyah Jenks in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Kendall Taylor survived Hartford’s Sara White at No. 2, 7-5, 6-1. The Wasps also had singles wins by Sophia Nisimblat (6-1, 6-4), Charlotte Nunan (6-0, 6-0) and Meridian Joy-Piper (6-0, 6-1).

Tess Belisle and Zoe Wood won the doubles match of the day for Woodstock, 4-6, 7-5 (11-9) over Hartford’s Bebhinn Knudsen and Maggie Dumont. Chloe Masillo/Taylor Crompton added a 6-2, 6-2 win for the Wasps.

Both teams return to action on Saturday when Woodstock visits Montpelier and Hartford hosts Burr & Burton.
