HARTFORD, VT — Roberta Louise Stammers, age 88, passed in Claremont, NH Saturday, January 30, 2021. She was born in Windsor, VT on September 30, 1932 to Lillian (Wentworth) and Cornelius Stammers and grew up in Hartland.
Roberta worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Windsor before marrying a farmer. She worked hard on the farm. Her son Scot was her world. For many years Roberta was well known for her baking and talent for making wedding cakes. She had an enviable kitchen workspace, and her son remembers being warned not to run near the ovens making a cake fall flat. She cooked meals for the monthly VAST (Vermont Association of Snow Travelers) Board of Directors meetings for many years. She worked for a time at the Carvel Ice Cream store making ice cream cakes. She retired from Timken Aerospace.
Roberta, also known as “SNOMO”, was a long-time member of VAST for over 40 years and a member of the multiple local snowmobile clubs including the Hartland Hill Hoppers. Roberta loved to ride whether it was by herself or with a group of friends. Her favorite place in the world to ride was Shrewsbury Peak. She especially loved seeing the wildlife while riding. She was well known for her air horn she had mounted on her snowmobile. The depth of the friendships she made was evidenced in the efforts of her friends to give Roberta her 100,000-mile ride several years ago. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her snowmobiling family.
Roberta is survived by her son, Scot Stammers of Hartland, VT; granddaughter, Kristina Stammers of Hartland, VT; and grandson, Jared Stammers of Hartland, VT. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, David, Donald, Richard and Robert Stammers and by one sister, Dorothy Ann Stammers.
