WESTMINSTER, Vt. – Tarin Prior had 19 points as the Hartford High boys basketball team jumped out to a 15-point lead after one quarter and never trailed again, defeating Bellows Falls 72-56 on Monday night. 

Jacob Seaver finished with 13 points thanks to three treys. The Hurricanes led 45-19 at the half and led 60-41 entering the final frame. 

Cole Jasmin contributed seven points while Aidan Brooks, Brandon Potter and Danny Bushway each had six. 

Hartford (2-0) visits Windsor on Thursday. 

Windsor 63, Brattleboro 50

WINDSOR – The Yellowjackets led only 27-25 at halftime, but used a quick third-quarter start to take a 10-point lead three minutes into the second half. 

Windsor (1-0) hosts Hartford on Thursday night. 

Sunapee 46, Stevens 44

SUNAPEE, N.H. – Stevens led by 10 after the third quarter, but Sunapee scored 15 of the first 17 points in the fourth to pull out the win.

Clayton Wadsworth had a game-high 21 points, including a 3-pointer to tie the game with 45 seconds left. Kayden LaClair added a career-high 11 for the Cards. 

Stevens (0-5) is scheduled to play at Newport on Tuesday. 

Springfield 58, Woodstock 44

WOODSTOCK, Vt. –  Corey White had 15 points as the Wasps opened up the season. 

“Good to get the first game under our belts,” first-year coach Jason Tarleton said. “We reached some of our goals for the game and identified areas to work on. Looking forward to getting back to work.

Woodstock (0-1) had a rocky first quarter, which made all the difference. The hosts outscored Springfield in the second half, 25-20.

Cooper Dorsogna scored eight for the Wasps, who travel to Brattleboro on Thursday. 

 

GIRLS BASKETBALLOxbow 44, Lyndon 43

LYNDON, Vt. – Emma Parkin poured in 22 points as the Olympians held on for the win. 

Up 21-19 at the half, Oxbow (2-0) played an even second half with the Vikings. 

Arianna Bolles had nine points and Alex Kosakowski added six. The O’s visit Williamstown on Tuesday. 

Thetford 75, Montpelier 24

THETFORD – Becca Wells had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Panthers picked up a win in their season opener.

“We had a very nice first game tonight,” Thetford coach Eric Ward said. “The girls have been waiting for over 11 months to be on the floor. I was very happy with the effort. This team is doing what we have done for awhile, balance scoring throughout the roster.”

The Panthers held a 37-11 lead after two quarters. Emma Colby finished with 16 points and Macey Smith had 12. Namya Benjamin added 11 points. 

Addison Cadwell had 10 points for Thetford, which travels on Thursday to Oxbow. 

 

BOYS HOCKEYBerlin-Gorham 4, Lebanon-Stevens-Mount Royal 2

BERLIN, N.H. – Trailing 2-0 after two periods of play, the Raiders comeback effort at Notre Dame Ice Arena was quelled by two Berlin-Gorham goals in the final period. 

Griffin Auch made it a 2-1 game with 8:17 remaining in the third. Aidan Yates and Will McGee were credited with assists.

Berlin-Gorham responded with two goals to seal the win. McGee scored on a power play with 33 seconds to play thanks to a pass from Jake Kriplin. 

Toby Cromwell made 27 saves in the loss. Lebanon (5-3-0) hosts Kearsarge on Wednesday night.
