ROHNERT PARK, CA —With great sadness, we announce Nancy Burrington passed away on January 1, 2021, at age 83. She died peacefully at home after struggling with the effects of a severe stroke. Nancy was raised on a dairy farm in the small town of Windsor, Vermont but spent most of her life in Sonoma County, California. She never forgot where she came from and was always striving to be the best version of herself. She got a Bachelor’s Degree from Dominican College while raising her daughter and her Master’s Degree in Organizational Development from Sonoma State while working there full time. After about 20 years at Sonoma State, Nancy retired. She had enduring friendships, many of which spanned decades. Nancy believed in authentic communication, discussing inner lives, books, and politics. She was honest to a fault. Nancy was intelligent, articulate, and forthright – a fierce and loyal ally with a kind heart. She took on the moniker scrappyn as she was always fighting for what and whom she believed. Nancy spent much of her retirement working tirelessly to increase voter education and engagement through the Sonoma County League of Women Voters. Nancy is survived by her daughter Margaret Mann, her partner Joel Reynolds, her sister Joyce Pierce, and many loyal friends. We extend our thanks to Heartland Hospice for the compassionate care provided in Nancy’s last days. If you wish to honor her legacy, you may donate to the Sonoma County League of Women Voters at https://my.lwv.org/california/sonoma-county/donate For memorial details, contact Margaret at mandk@sonic.net.
