HANOVER, NH — Beverly Jane Currier, 90, passed January 1, 2021 at Hanover Terrace Nursing Home. Born February 20, 1930 in Hanover to Barbara (Cloud) and Eaton L. Bean, Jane grew up in Norwich, VT and graduated from Hanover High School in 1948.
Jane married Paul H. Currier in August of 1949 and the couple raised their family in West Lebanon. Jane and Charles “Chuck” Cloud were first cousins. In 1957, after Chuck’s parents were killed in an automobile accident, Jane and Paul adopted Chuck and raised him as their son. Shortly thereafter, Jane lost her sister, Betty Larabee, at a young age. Jane and Paul took in three of her sister’s four children: nieces, Barbara and Brenda, and nephew, Donald, and raised them for two years, until they returned to live with their father and stepmother. Jane and Paul had a son, Thomas, in 1962, who was born with Down’s Syndrome and was raised as a resident at the Laconia State School. They also had a daughter, Elizabeth Ann, in 1964, who died 1 week after birth. In July 1965, Jane and Paul adopted 6-month-old Elizabeth “Betsy” Jane.
For many years, the Curriers had a camp on Crystal Lake. After selling the camp, the family vacationed with their camper in Randolph, VT every summer until Paul died in 1975.
Jane was a member of the West Lebanon Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir, and enjoyed knitting for the Christmas Bazaar’s. She was also a Brownie Scout Leader. She enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting, doing word search puzzles, and watching TV. She was an avid New England sports fan, it did not matter if it was the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, or Celtics, she watched it all. After retiring she enjoyed going out to lunch with her friends every day and going to the “concerts on the Green” on Monday nights in the summers.
Jane worked at the Baker Library at Dartmouth College for many years before retiring in 1995.
Jane is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck” (Kristen) Currier of Duck Key, FL; daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Wright of Cornish Flat, NH; grandchildren, Ryan (Spencer) Guillette of Lexington, SC and Kristen (Joe) Laundry of Plainfield, NH; great-grandchildren, Liam Davis Guillette, Zoey Jane Guillette, Vincent Michael Laundry, and Ellie Grace Laundry; brother, Gordon Dana Bean of Enfield, NH; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Eaton and Barbara Bean; husband, Paul H. Currier, who passed March 12, 1975; son, Thomas Currier; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Currier; brother, Richard L. Bean, and his wife, Nancy; sister, Alma Elizabeth “Betty” Larabee, and her husband, Dean; and sister-in-law, Maxine Bean.
