LEBANON — The owner of a Lebanon gym who planned to hold a self-described “herd immunity” Christmas party next week has called off the gathering, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office.

Crom MMA & Fitness on Mechanic Street planned to throw the party on Dec. 12.

The event, which was still listed on the gym’s Facebook page Friday afternoon, advertised “food, drinks and smoke provided.” It drew criticism from city officials who worried that large gatherings could increase the spread of COVID-19.

State officials reached out to the gym’s owner, Marc Garza, on Nov. 30 to “discuss our concerns with whether this event would comply with the Governor’s Emergency Orders,” Associate Attorney General Anne Edward said in a statement Thursday.

“During the phone call, the owner stated that he is not planning on holding the Dec. 12 event shown on the gym’s website,” she said. “We are sending him a letter confirming his statements to us and explaining what needs to be done in order to run an event that complies with the Emergency Orders.”

“We will continue to monitor the situation,” Edwards added.

An email seeking comment from Garza was not returned Thursday.
