HANOVER — Justin Wood has been named the new men’s cross country coach at Dartmouth College, the school announced on Monday afternoon.
Wood takes over for Barry Harwick, who retired this spring after 28 years of leading Big Green men’s cross country and track. Wood will also serve as an assistant coach with the indoor and outdoor track teams, mentoring the men’s distance runners.
He comes to Dartmouth after spending two years as the coach of the men’s and women’s cross country programs at the University of La Verne in California. Prior to that stint, he was the head coach of the cross country and track and field teams at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey from 2012-18.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Dartmouth and is well-suited to carry on the job that Barry Harwick so ably performed,” Dartmouth athletic director Harry Sheehy said in the release.
During his time at La Verne, Wood coached two Division III cross country national championship individual qualifiers. Over six seasons at Stevens, his athletes earned 30 D-III All-American honors.
