CLAREMONT — Talk about double duty.

The Stevens High boys soccer team broke a seven-match losing streak when Cooper Moote — removed from his goalkeeping responsibilities to play striker in overtime — delivered the game-winning goal in a 2-1 defeat of archrival Fall Mountain on Thursday at Monadnock Park.

Trystan Lane’s flick freed Moote on the deciding strike. Kayden Laclair broke a scoreless tie in the 70th minute for the Cards (2-7-0), but Fall Mountain forced extra time with a goal in the final minute of regulation.

Moote had a pair of saves before yielding the net to Prescott Herzog for the last 10 minutes of regulation and overtime.

The two rivals meet again on Saturday morning in Langdon, N.H.

WINDSOR — A three-goal second half run allowed the Wildcats (1-3-0) to finally break into the win column with a victory over the Yellowjackets (1-5-0) at MacLeay-Royce Field.

An Adam Dufour free kick brought Windsor back from a one-goal deficit and into a halftime draw. WRV responded with its three-goal burst, broken only by a Blake Archambault score on a direct restart.

Windsor hosts Mill River on Saturday. The Wildcats host Rivendell on Monday.

STOWE, Vt. — Adrian Bryan scored two goals and assisted on the third as the Raiders extended Thetford’s winless streak to three matches.

Scoreless at the half, Stowe didn’t break through until the 51st minute, then doubled its lead five minutes later. Ryen Wolf made 14 saves in the TA net until leaving with an injury; Jack Hogan recorded six stops, including a PK, with his only goal against coming with 15 seconds to play.

Thetford (1-2-2) returns home to play Northfield-Williamstown on Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCERLebanon 1, Hanover 1 (2 OT)

LEBANON — The Raiders (3-1-1) gave the Marauders (6-0-1) the first blemish of the season by holding them to a draw at Lebanon High.

Hanover, which claimed a 1-0 win over Lebanon to open the season last month, picked up a goal from sophomore Mia Madden, her first varsity goal, and three saves from goalkeeper Rebekah Rudd. Casey McGuire and Caroline Adams also had key contributions for the Marauders, coach Doug Kennedy said.

The rivals will meet one more time before states, on Oct. 21 in Hanover. In the meantime, Lebanon entertains Kearsarge on Saturday. The Marauders return to play on Monday, hosting Keene.

Hartford 4, Otter Valley 0

BRANDON, Vt. — Four different scorers fronted Erin Thompson’s four-save shutout to bring the Hurricanes (3-3-0) back to the .500 mark.

Nora Knudsen, Reilly Slusser, Grace Pfenning and Jenna Jasmin delivered the goals for Hartford. Knudsen, Sarah Howe, Eleanor Hinckley and Beth Dobrich recorded assists. Knudsen got the scoring started just before halftime. Pfenning’s goal was her first with the Hartford varsity.

“Playing the day after our emotional senior night victory, this could have been a trap game,” Hartford coach Jeff Acker said. “The girls were able to find a way to kick into high gear and dominate the second half.”

The Otters and Canes meet again on Monday at the Maxfield Sports Complex.

Arlington 4, Sharon 2

SHARON — The Phoenix (2-5-0) erased a two-goal deficit only to see the Eagles strike twice more in a 14-minute span of the second half to pull away.

Arlington took a 2-0 lead into halftime, making use of a Sarah Tilley free kick in the eighth minute to get started. Lydia Eastman’s own 20-yard restart blast brought Sharon back a goal in the 49th minute, and Maeve Miller tied the contest seven minutes after that. Arlington took the lead for good on a 58th-minute breakaway.

“I am again happy with the performance despite the loss,” TSA co-coach Andy Ruddell said. “We possessed very well at times, and I thought we deserved at least a draw from the balance of play.”

Molly Kinnarney had an assist and Hattie Byrne provided solid play at center back for Sharon, which is headed to Blue Mountain on Saturday.
