WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock High girls soccer team just needed an extra 48 hours to break into the win column.

The Wasps were to host Hartford on Saturday before thunderstorms put off their encounter until Monday. Buoyed by a three-goal second half, Woodstock posted a 4-1 win over the Hurricanes for its first victory after a season-opening four-game winless streak.

Hannah Reed rolled a shot into the lower left corner of the Hartford net, converting a Megan LaCroix pass, to get the Wasps (1-3-1) on the scoreboard first. The Canes leveled shortly thereafter and dominated the final 15 minutes of the opening half.

Reed and Woodstock teammate Abi Masillo resumed pressuring the Hartford defense after the break, with Reed putting the Wasps ahead to stay on a Savannah Sheehan assist. Masillo made it 3-1, and Novah Conway completed the scoring for Woodstock on a penalty kick.

“The game on Saturday night was scoreless and a classic Woodstock-Hartford battle which both teams and coaches enjoyed regardless of the outcome,” Woodstock coach Greg LaBella said. “These games are just a great example of the rivalries that make playing sports so special. … Just getting players comfortable in varsity competition has been the challenge.”

Emma Tarleton recorded the win in goal for Woodstock, which visits Mill River on Thursday. Hartford (1-3-0) hosts Brattleboro on Tuesday night under the high school football field lights.

Stevens 2, Kearsarge 1

CLAREMONT — Jenna Bonneau and freshman Maddy Minkler hit the back of the net to help the Cardinals (2-7-0) snap a seven-match losing streak and beat the Cougars at Monadnock Park.

Minkler’s goal, her first as a varsity player, came in her first minutes of the season. Angelina LaClair posted an assist, and goalkeeper Hailey Knight included a denial of a Kearsarge penalty kick among her saves. Stevens visits Fall Mountain on Wednesday in the first game of a home-and-home set.

Danville 2, Oxbow 1

DANVILLE, Vt. — Rylie Cadieux’s tie-breaking goal kept the Indians (4-0-0) perfect at the Olympians’ expense.

Aspen Longmoore gave Oxbow (2-3-0) the first lead of the match when she converted a pass from Lillian DeGoosh for her first goal of the campaign. Danville evened things up through Lilah Hall, leaving Cadieux to settle the contest later on. Goalkeeper Makenna Simmons kept the O’s in the contest, making 12 saves.

“Unfortunately, the game didn’t go our way today,” Oxbow coach Dan Thomas noted. “We created a lot of good opportunities, but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.”

The O’s host Winooski for their final regular-season home match on Wednesday.

BOYS SOCCERSharon 3, Blue Mountain 2

WELLS RIVER, Vt. — It’s wasn’t pretty, Phoenix coach Blake Fabrikant noted, but Erik Younce’s second hat trick in as many games — topped by the game-winning goal with 6 seconds left in regulation — secured for Sharon (6-1-0) its latest victory.

Younce converted on a goal-line scrum in the third minute and on a 15th-minute header of an Ever Tofel corner service to give TSA a 2-0 lead. The Bucks rallied to tie on goals in the 26th and 61st minutes only to have Younce chase down a Tofel through ball and solve the Blue Mountain goalkeeper in the final seconds for his 10th goal in four matches since being moved to striker from the back line.

“This was not a pretty game by any stretch, and we feel fortunate to have walked away with the result,” Fabrikant said.

Sharon entertains Proctor on Friday.

NORTH SUTTON, N.H. — The Stevens seniors stepped up to get a win over the Cougars.

Senior Zoey Foote got the Cardinals (3-3-0) going with a second-quarter goal on a pass from classmate Abi Faro. Seniors connected on Stevens’ clinching goal in the fourth quarter, with Emily Herbert potting a Julia Turksy feed. Senior goalie Alex Perez made it all stand up with her shutout play in net.

Stevens wraps up its regular season with a home-and-home against rival Newport, starting with a Thursday evening home date at Monadnock Park.

Woodstock 2, Brattleboro 0

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — The Wasps (4-2-0) gained momentum through the evening to grab a Southern Vermont League shutout on the road.

Lily Gubbins had a goal and an assist for Woodstock. Gubbins scored unassisted in the first quarter and set up Lilia McCullough’s clincher in the fourth. McCullough took a midfield feed from Gubbins and drove in alone, firing a shot home from the far right wing into the far left corner of the Colonels’ net.

“The girls moved the ball well and passed really well,” Woodstock coach Wendy Wannop pointed out.

Tobin Calder, Anna Steele, Lili Sorrentino and McCullough all played key roles in the victory, Woodstock’s third in four games. The Wasps host Otter Valley on Wednesday.

GOLFNHIAA team states postponed

CONCORD — Tuesday’s wet and windy forecast has led the NHIAA to postpone until next week the first two of its four state team championship tournaments.

The Division I team tourney, which includes Hanover High, will be held on Oct. 20 at the Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods. The D-III team tourney, which counts Lebanon and Stevens, has been bumped back to the same date at Manchester’s Derryfield Country Club. Divisions II and IV are slated to have their team championships on Thursday.

The NHIAA has yet to determine how Tuesday’s changes affect Saturday’s individual state championship at Concord’s Beaver Meadow Golf Course. Ordinarily, the lowest 20 scores and ties from the team tournament usually advance to the individual finals.
