LANGDON, N.H. — The members of the Hanover High volleyball program can now say they understand both the ins and outs of the game.
The Marauders overcame a first-set loss Thursday afternoon and defeated host Fall Mountain in four sets, 25-23, 26-24, 25-12 and 25-22. The win came in the first outdoor volleyball match in New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association history.
“With the differences between indoor and outdoor volleyball, this was a different kind of challenge for the girls,” said fourth-year Hanover coach Megan McFarland. “As a team, they looked more cohesive than ever and played as a real unit. All 10 players contributed to a real team win in a first-of-its-kind match.”
Division II Hanover (2-0) swept the D-III Wildcats on Monday night in their season opener. On Thursday, Fall Mountain took the first set but the Marauders used Esther Hacker’s 10-kill performance to fuel a comeback.
Katie Peterson tallied four aces and had 24 digs for Hanover. Emily Gammell and Talia Daft each posted five aces.
The Marauders visit Stevens on Monday night.
SUNAPEE — The Lakers swept the visiting Cardinals, 25-13, 25-16 and 25-17.
Senior Emily Anderson served eight aces for Stevens, which hosts Hanover on Monday night.
WEST CANAAN — Playing for the second time in three days, the Tigers used goals from Bella Coffin and Riley Skarin to sweep the season series.
Newport (2-0) also received help on the offensive end with Alicia Urista and Cassie Sanborn each recording an assist.
Madisun LaCasse scored Mascoma’s lone goal. The Royals drop to 0-3 on the season and host Newfound on Saturday morning.
The Tigers pay a visit to Lebanon on Monday.
MOULTONBOROUGH, N.H. — Competing in the NHIAA qualifying round on Lake Winnipesaukee the Raiders caught one fish for a total weight of 1.34 pounds and fell shorts of making next month’s state championship tournament.
Bishop Guertin won the qualifier, held on Lake Winnipesaukee, with eight fish and a total weight of 17.58 pounds. The top 10 teams advance to the state championship in Wentworth, N.H., on Oct. 3.
