The Claremont Conservation Commission has created an online survey seeking residents’ opinion about litter in the city of Claremont. We ask that citizens of Claremont fill out this short survey. The survey can be found on the city’s webpage, www.claremontnh.com, in the scrolling index near the top.
Questions regarding the survey can be directed to deForest Bearse at the Planning and Development Department, 603-542-7008.

Whose idea was it to replace our red recycling bins with ones the size of an aircraft carrier?
No consultation, and no forethought that many people in the community with long, hilly driveways can neither drag loaded bins up a hill nor drag empty ones back down. Perhaps those with short, flat driveways to the sidewalks of Hanover can use them.
Not to mention that, while the red bins could fit in a car to haul them up the driveway and back down again, we cannot use the new one without owning a dually. Nor can I return it to whoever sent it without renting a U-Haul truck.
I can only wonder if this was some sort of cost-cutting scheme.
Please, bring back our bins.

When I lived in Alaska back in the 1960s, a local joke went like this: What is the Alaska state flower? The answer by those of us who had spent a lot of time in the bush was, “The 55-gallon blue drum.”
Here in the Upper Valley, and probably much of New Hampshire, the new state flower is the Casella recycling container, with its bright blue top and free advertising.
A blight on the landscape.

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s decision to choose a Black woman as his running mate was a classic example of identity politics in action.
If he is elected, you can be sure that all of his decisions will be conditioned by issues of race, gender and sexual preference, rather than by merit.

This is in regard to the rush by President Donald Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to replace Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg when there are only six weeks left before the election.
As was famously said to Sen. Joseph McCarthy when he finally crossed a similar line of blatant corruption and hypocrisy: “Sir(s), Have you no shame?”

And now, of course, all the honorable Republicans in the Senate will insist that we follow their noble precedent set in 2016 and postpone any confirmation hearings for a new Supreme Court nominee until a new session convenes in 2021.
To do anything else would be a blatant demonstration of hypocrisy.

When you vote in the upcoming election, the only question you need to consider is how many more people must die at the hands of this administration? The nation needs a cohesive strategy to contain COVID-19, and the Trump administration is just not doing it.
Please vote to protect your loved ones, your friends, neighbors and global citizens.
