LEBANON — The Upper Valley Anglers 19Us erased an early six-run deficit but couldn’t lacked another rally in a 15-10 loss to Lakes Region on Monday night in a New Hampshire COVID Baseball League game at Lebanon High School.

The Anglers (7-7) trailed after giving up eight runs in the top of the second inning, answering with seven runs of their own for a 9-8 advantage. Their Laconia-based foes kept the offense coming, however, with three multi-run frames to take the contest.

Ben Williams (Hanover High) and Trey Chickering (Proctor Academy) both singled and scored in the home first to get Upper Valley (7-7) going. Lakes Region jumped on starting Trey Parker (KUA/Roanoke College) in the second, chasing him after the first six batters of the inning reached base. Lakes Region (6-8) combined eight runs on five hits for an 8-2 lead.

Undaunted, the Anglers amassed a seven-run response to regain the upper hand at 9-8 a half-inning later. Upper Valley did it with the benefit of just one hit, as Lakes Region pitchers contributed six walks and one hit batsman to the comeback.

Upper Valley’s offense ended there. The Anglers had just three hits the rest of the way, and their last seven batters were retired in order.

Meanwhile, Lakes Region scored twice in the third and seventh innings and three times in the fourth to take control. The visitors had 14 hits on the night.

Jack Loftus (Hanover) had two hits, two RBIs and a run for Upper Valley. Chickering provided a pair of base hits and scored three times. Kobe Benoit (Lebanon) added two hits and a run.

The Anglers play five of their final six games on the road, starting with a date against Merrimack on Wednesday at Daniel Webster College’s Harvey Woods Field.
