QUECHEE, VT — MaryLou Barrell, died Wednesday July 8, 2020 at home in Quechee, VT.
She was born 73 years ago in Barre, VT a daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Dunkling. She spent her first 12 years in Plainfield, VT before moving with her mother and brothers to South Strafford, VT. MaryLou graduated from Thetford Academy in 1965 and later married Richard Josler. She was blessed with two wonderful children, Daniel and Linda before their divorce. In 1997 she found love and married Fred Barrell. Together they enjoyed travelling, golfing, hiking and the joy of winters in Florida. Along the way, she was able to dedicate 26 years to Dartmouth College, working in the Library, Payroll, Admissions, Grants and Contracts and NCCC
Family was always most important to MaryLou, spending much time and energy connecting folks. She also enjoyed baking, gardening and a good sale. She was an avid animal lover and dedicated many years to fostering dogs for Green Mountain Pug Rescue. Throughout her life, MaryLou’s positive attitude stood out. She was especially grateful for the generous amount of support she received through her ALS illness.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Michael and David Dunkling. She is survived by her wonderful husband of 23 years, Fred Barrell; son, Daniel Josler; daughter Linda Jordan; step children Michael Curtis, Kelly Dixon and Brian Barrell; brother, Paul Dunkling; sister, Deborah Paige; first husband Richard Josler and many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends as well as many happy puppies.
There will be a private graveside service at a later date, to be determined.
