LEBANON — Three straight singles to open the bottom of the second inning ignited a four-run frame for the Upper Valley Anglers 19Us, who used the outburst as the foundation of a 9-3 win over New Hampshire Prospects Red on Thursday in a New Hampshire COVID Baseball League game at Lebanon High School.
The Anglers (4-4) broke a four-game losing streak with the victory.
Keegan Silovich (Hanover High), Nolan Gantrish (Hanover) and Jack Loftus (Hanover) all singled in the second, with Loftus driving in the game’s first run. Brendan Walker (Woodsville) provided a two-run double to keep the line moving, and Ben Williams’ RBI single plated Walker for a 4-0 lead.
A three-run third put Upper Valley in control to stay. Silovich doubled home Trey Parker (KUA/Roanoke College), later leading Gantrish across the plate on a two-run single from Andrew Hadlock (KUA).
Williams (Hanover) walked and scored in the fourth and sixth frames to complete Upper Valley’s offensive assault. Walker dominated on the mound, retiring the first 11 NHP batters he faced and striking out five before being pulled in the fifth inning.
Silovich doubled twice on a 3-for-4 night at the plate to lead the Anglers.
Upper Valley wraps up a five-game homestand with a visit from Merrimack on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The White River Junction Junior Nighthawks won their fifth straight game and avenged their only defeat by edging Bellows Falls in a Vermont Summer Baseball League game at the Maxfield Sports Complex.
WRJ (5-1) broke open a 2-2 game with a three-run third inning built on a walk, three singles, two stolen bases and a pair of passed balls. Ryland Richardson (Windsor) walked to preface singles from Robert Slocum (Windsor), Jacob Dwinell (Hartford) and Jacob Barry (White River Valley) for a 5-2 advantage.
The Junior Nighthawks stretched the lead to 9-2 in the fourth, with Ryan Pepe (Thetford), Kyle Hamilton (Hartford), Richardson and Slocum all reaching base and scoring. WRJ then held on as BF (4-2) mounted a late — but unsuccessful — comeback attempt.
Alex Bushway (Hartford) picked up the win on the mound for the Junior Nighthawks, who travel to Bennington (0-6) for a Saturday doubleheader.
CONCORD — The Upper Valley Anglers 17Us continued to take their knocks at Rollins Park, dropping their fifth straight to open the NHCBL summer season.
The hosts rapped out 13 hits, scoring four times in the opening inning and five more times in the third. Dominic Vanlaere-Nutting (Fall Mountain) and Connor Pollard (Cardigan Mountain) provided Upper Valley’s runs in the third frame.
Vanlaere-Nutting, Jon Carrier (Lebanon), Trevor Pierce (Hanover) and Declan Flynn (Hanover) all singled for the Anglers, who host the STA Saints for a doubleheader on Saturday at Lebanon High.
